Once you and your baby get home, the hard work begins.  Although we at bump2school can’t get your baby to sleep through the night or stop it getting colic, we can try to help things go a little more smoothly.

To help your baby settle in its cot once you get home, put one of your used t-shirts over the bottom sheet.  Your smell will then help to calm your baby down.

For babies that kick their sheets off in the night, look at buying a baby sleeping bag. Make sure you get the right tog value for the time of year and nursery temperature.

Nappies come in many different shapes and sizes.  It may take you a few tries to get the right one for your baby.

Small babies don’t like having clothes put over their head.  Have a good supply of sleep suits that have poppers up the front.  Vests with a side fastening make changing outfits in the middle of the night much easier.

A hungry baby may not always appreciate having to wait for their food.  If you are having problems with the changing your baby in the night, feed them first.

Babies nails grow at an amazing rate.  Try cutting their nails while they are asleep with scissors or clippers.  Alternatively use a nail file, so that you don’t run the risk of cutting their finger.

Remember to refill your change bag before you next go out and make sure that the spare clothes still fit your baby.

Babies are very flexible, so remember to take off their socks before you change their nappy.

Don’t try to be superwoman, either let the housework slip or employ a cleaning company on an ad hoc basis.  Catching up on your sleep is much more important.
